World Tourism Day Print

World Tourism day is held each year on the 27th of September to emphasis the importance of tourism in strengthening cultural, social, and political links as well as creating bilateral economic growth. Each year a new theme is chosen by the General Assembly, on the recommendation of the World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) Executive Council, with special events and festivities that are related to the theme.

The 27th of September was intentionally chosen as World Tourism Day because the 27th of September, 1970 was the anniversary of the UNWTO Statutes. The UNWTO unifies tourism on a global scale, and draws participants from 120 countries.  It has at least 56 Affiliated Members and 20 international organizations who participate.

The World Tourism day is run in conjunction with the Tourism Fair. [Developers link with Tourism Fair] that draws foreign participants worldwide to Pakistan where they meet local businessmen as well as learn about Pakistan’s vast tourism and business opportunities. Many working business relationships have been formed at the fair that have resulted in an increase of revenue and an awareness of Pakistan’s potential.

In the past under the theme ‘Tourism Opens Doors for Women’ the achievements of women were demonstrated. This theme was chosen to attain the UN Millennium Development Goals for 2015 and was a support for women’s activities in Pakistan. It was a tribute to women who contribute to Pakistan’s economic growth and successfully promoted their endeavors on a global scale as well as locally.

Pakistan has been brought into the tourism limelight. The World Tourism Day, and The Tourism Fair, with its exclusive events, festivities, as well as local visits and tours has taught foreigners that Pakistan is not only an economic resource, but a wonderful place to visit, having a vast array of unique tourist interests, and friendly fun loving people.
